Lipscomb Missions hosts annual walk-through experience highlighting short-term mission work for students, community

The Lipscomb University Missions Program hosted the community for a unique walk-through, immersion experience Sept. 28 featuring food, audio tours and authentic displays of mission trips in India, Honduras and New York City.

The fund-raising event, called Discover, was held in Lipscomb’s Ezell Center and offered anyone interested in participating in or financially supporting mission efforts, both domestically or internationally, a chance to see the opportunities available and the effects that these mission trips are having on lives all over the world.
In addition to the three trips featured in walk-through displays, student missionaries from 13 teams serving in various locales including Uganda, Philippines, Moldova, Northern California and more, were on-site providing testimonies and highlighting the foods and cultures of the nations they have served. Attendees were also able to sample coffee from The Well, a new nonprofit coffee house in Green Hills raising money to provide clean water in Africa.
“From the minute they step in the door of the Ezell Center, we wanted our guests to feel like the mission experience had started,” said Paul Stevens, Lipscomb missions coordinator for special projects and events. For example, attendees were greeted in the Ezell Lobby by either a “pilot,” who "flew" them up to the third floor on the elevator, or a group of backpackers, who guided them on a trek up the stairs.
This year’s walk-through exhibit provided an eyewitness view of education efforts in New York, construction work done by Lipscomb’s athletic teams in Honduras and relational ministry at orphanages in India through displays, photos and first-hand accounts by students, team leaders and those who have been served on the trips.
Lipscomb University welcomes anyone interested to join its short-term mission teams. In fact, the university has partnered with community organizations such as Mobile Medical Disaster Relief (MMDR), Justice and Mercy International, Mission Lazarus, Let’s Start Talking and Habitat for Humanity over the years to annually send almost 700 students, faculty, staff, alumni and interested community members to mission fields all over the world. In the last academic year, Lipscomb has sent 47 mission teams to 25 nations and six locations in the U.S.
