Lipscomb joins community on road to good mental health

On May 8, 2008, the second complimentary educational opportunity focusing on healthy living for the whole person (spiritual, physical, intellectual, social and emotional health) will be offered for both the general public and healthcare providers. The event, Wellness 66: Roads to Good Mental Health, will be hosted by the Resource Center on Aging at Harpeth Hills Church of Christ, Parthenon Pavilion Hospital and the Center for Healthy Living at Centennial Medical Center.

Lipscomb Univeristy's College of Pharmacy team

Lipscomb University’s College of Pharmacy provided a grant that made it possible for the seminar to provide CEU credits. This educational offering has been reviewed by the National Continuing Education Review Service (NCERS) of the National Association of Boards of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators (NAB) and approved for 5 clock hours and 5 participant hours. The College of Pharmacy is devoted to community service and hopes to have a positive impact on all aspects of the healthcare in our region.

“This is a unique community-based program,” said Ron Haskamp, assistant administrator for Parthenon Pavilion at Centennial. “This event brings together a blend of the general public and healthcare providers looking at the mind, body and spirit and how they affect the aging process.  Children with aging parents, seniors themselves, social workers, therapists, nurses – just a wide variety of people come together to explore the road to overall wellness. We are pleased to have the opportunity to offer CEU credits thanks to the support of Lipscomb’s College of Pharmacy.“

Experts in various fields will present information useful to senior adults, their caregivers, social workers and healthcare professionals regarding the road to good mental health. Rhonda Lowry will serve as the theologian bringing a spiritual dimension to the journey. Dr. Catherine Stallworth, Dr. William Petrie, Hollie Potts, Dr. Karla Miller and Dr. Katie Liveoak are among the other presenters for the day. These presenters will explore a holistic approach to healthcare with seniors, caregivers and healthcare professionals together in a learning environment. The speakers hold interactive sessions throughout the day.

For years, Rhonda’s heart has been drawn to personal ministry. In 1991, Rhonda made a crucial decision: she decided to attend Fuller Theological Seminary in pursuit of a Master of Divinity degree. She knew the journey would be long and difficult because she chose not to give up her many helping roles in the family, church and community. She completed her M.Div. degree and has become a widely sought-after speaker and has taught at Fuller Theological Seminary, Pepperdine University, and presently is an assistant professor at Lipscomb University.

Lipscomb University's First Lady Rhonda Lowry

Rhonda Lowry often focuses her speaking engagements on spiritual formation. She is a frequent speaker at Laity Lodge in Texas, a program of the H. E. Butt Foundation dedicated to enabling Christians to know Jesus deeply and to serve him in the everyday places of their lives. Rhonda is often invited to speak for the ZOE Group, a nonprofit ministry of Christian renewal based in Nashville. She has spoken at the North American Christian Convention and frequently speaks at the Pepperdine Bible Lectures. Rhonda was awarded the 2004 WINESKINS award of Christian service at the Pepperdine lectures. She serves as a board member for Rochester College, for Missions Resource network, and the ALS Association, Tennessee Chapter. She will speak at the May 8th Wellness 66: Roads to Good Mental Health program as she shares her personal ministry with the Nashville community.

“The goal of our program is to be a resource for the community. We want to offer both general and specific information about the aging process and good mental health,” said Haskamp. “This unique collaboration is an exciting resource we can offer the community. We are excited to have Rhonda join us, along with all of our other presenters.”

The program will run from 8:45 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.  in the Harpeth Hills Church of Christ community room. Lunch is included with registration, but seating is limited. For additional information or to register for this complimentary educational activity, contact Medline at 342-1919 or 800-242-5662.
