Lipscomb to host special July 4 celebration

 |

Lipscomb University will host "One Nation Under God," a special Independence Day celebration, July 4 on the lawn in front of Allen Arena. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with inflatable games for children, an old-fashioned barbecue, and live music. A patriotic concert featuring the Nashville Wind Ensemble and violinist Ruth McGinnis will begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by a fireworks display at 8:45 p.m. The university is located at 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville. "We wanted to offer the community a family-friendly alternative for celebrating the date of our nation's birth," said Walt Leaver, vice president for university relations. "Because of our nature as a distinctively Christian university, smoking and alcohol will not be permitted, giving us a unique opportunity to provide a fun-filled evening for families." The barbecue picnic will be $5 for adults, $3 for children. All other features of the evening are free, and participation in the picnic is not required for attendance. "One Nation Under God" is one feature of Lipscomb's new "Summer Celebration," which also features the university's annual Bible lectureship from July 2-5.
