Lipscomb to host Eating Disorders Coalition

The Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee (EDCT) will host its first annual forum for health professionals on April 17, 2004 at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. Featured speakers Carolyn Costin, LMFT, MA, M.Ed., and Sondra Kronberg, MS, RD, CDN will address the broad spectrum of issues related to the treatment and prevention of eating disorders including, Making it Work: The Integrated Team Approach and The Silent Voice: The Meaning of Food, Weight and Body. Regional presenters, Dr. Gina Prigoff, Dr. Ginger Patterson, Dr. Larry Christiansen, and Jeannie Patton, M.S., will facilitate breakout sessions that will focus on disordered eating, guidelines for exercise in the treatment of anorexia nervosa, creating a healthy body image in kids (a model for parents and teachers), and food and mood. The cost of the Forum is $99 for EDCT members, $125 for non-members, and $69 for students. A certificate of participation reflecting the number of training hours will be provided to all attendees. Lipscomb University psychology majors, graduate Bible students, dietetic interns, and graduate education students will receive FREE admission to the Saturday Forum. You must still send in your registration form by Monday, April 12th. This forum is open to all professionals who work with those impacted by eating disorders or individuals who want to learn more about working with this population. Costin & Kronberg will also host a Community Chat on Friday night for members of the community and Forum attendees. This chat will focus on, Eating Disorders from Day to Day: Perspectives and Strategies for Friends, Families and Sufferers. This program will be held at the Swang Auditorium on Lipscomb campus at 7pm. Tickets are $10 & available at the door or by phone at (615) 831-9838. All Lipscomb students, faculty and staff will receive free admission to this event with a valid Lipscomb ID. All proceeds will benefit the EDCT. The Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to a positive body image and the coordinated education and prevention of eating disorders. The mission of the EDCT is to offer hope, help and support to all who are impacted by disordered eating. Through programs geared towards adolescents, young adults, families, school and health professionals, the EDCT raises awareness about the impact of dieting and eating disorders and provides support for families struggling with this devastating disease.
