Lipscomb to host Declaration of Independence

Lipscomb University will host a public viewing of one of the few remaining original copies of the Declaration of Independence Nov. 16. The Declaration of Independence will be on display in Lipscomb's Beaman Library will be on display from 7-8:30 p.m. Admission is free. Lipscomb University is located at 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville. The document is one of 25 remaining copies of the Declaration printed by John Dunlap on July 4, 1776. Dunlap originally printed 200 copies for distribution to the colonies. The Declaration will be on loan for the evening from the Nashville Public Library, where it will be on display through Nov. 21 as part of the Declaration of Independence Road Trip, a three-and-a-half-year cross country tour. The Road Trip is a non-profit, non-partisan project designed to take the "People's Document" directly to all Americans, especially young people, to inspire them to see citizenship as an opportunity, to participate in civic life, to exercise their rights, and to vote.
