Lipscomb to host Christian High School Choral Festival

 |

Students from 12 southeast high schools will participate in the 29th annual Christian High School Choral Festival at Lipscomb University Nov. 16-17. Festival events are free and open to the public. Lipscomb University is located at 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville. Choruses will perform individually and collectively during the two-day event under the direction of Craig Jones, director of the Harding Academy choral program in Searcy, AR, said Dr. Larry Griffith, festival coordinator and professor of music at Lipscomb University. "This is a great opportunity for the students to work under someone new," Griffith said. "It is very informative for these students to have input from another director on ways to improve. "We have seen the level of performance increase through the years because of their coming to the festival," Griffith said. "These students hear other choruses and many times are inspired to know what they can do if they work hard enough." The choruses will present a joint performance of "Praise to the Lord" at the conclusion of Lipscomb's area-wide worship service in Allen Arena Nov. 16. The service begins with congregational singing at 5:30 p.m. and will feature a message by Lipscomb President Steve Flatt. On Nov. 17, each chorus will perform two selections individually beginning at 7 p.m. in Collins Alumni Auditorium. A joint performance of five selections will conclude the festival, Griffith said. Schools participating include David Lipscomb High School, Ezell-Harding, Nashville; Friendship Christian, Lebanon; Goodpasture, Madison; Middle Tennessee Christian, Murfreesboro; West Memphis Christian; Boyd-Buchanan, Chattanooga; Mars Hill, Florence, Ala.; Alabama Christian, Montgomery; Greater St. Louis Christian; Madison Academy, Huntsville; and Dallas (Texas) Christian.
