Lipscomb to graduate record number of students at commencement ceremony

Lipscomb University will hold its 2010 commencement ceremony Saturday, May 8, in Allen Arena, on the Lipscomb campus, One University Park Drive, Nashville.
 
Graduation activities will include:
  • Graduation Ceremony, 2 p.m., Saturday, May 8, Allen Arena;
  • Photos with the president and an undergraduate reception, immediately after the ceremony, Bison Square;
  • Graduate student reception 12:30-1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 8, Bennett Campus Center lobby; and
  • Nurse pinning ceremony, 7 p.m., Friday, May 7, Willard Collins Alumni Auditorium.
 
The ceremonies will feature comments by Lipscomb President L. Randolph Lowry and recognition of the 2010 Alumnus of the Year, Dr. Paul Kyo Jihn, CEO of the Information and Technology Corps (ITCO), a United Nations partner organization.
 
In addition, graduates of the Class of 1960 will be on campus celebrating their 50th reunion and participating in commencement exercises. Also President Lowry will discuss the recent flooding  this past weekend and how the Lipscomb community has reached out to others in need, including opening a Red Cross shelter.
 
Ongoing enrollment increases in the past few years continue to increase the number of graduates at Lipscomb’s annual May graduation ceremonies. Lipscomb’s fall enrollment was 3,414, and the spring class of 2010 is expected to be the largest group of graduates ever.
 
As of this writing:
  • 431 students, the largest group ever, are expected to walk the stage;
  • The spring 2010 graduating class includes 123 master’s level graduates;
  • Lipscomb University will award 308 bachelor’s degree in arts, science, business, nursing, fine arts and social work; and
  • The university will award 123 master’s degrees in Bible, education, conflict management, business, sustainability and counseling.
Students planning to complete their degree in August 2010 will also be included in the Saturday ceremony.
 
This Saturday, Lipscomb will be graduating its first five Master of Science in Sustainability students. Lipscomb’s Master of Science in Sustainability program is the first of its kind in the Southeast. Students, including a native of Bogota, Columbia, are graduating with a variety of focus areas and backgrounds including communications, green construction, marketing, sustainable food production, green commercial facilities management and green professional sports and hospitality.
