Lipscomb gets new campus-wide phone number

Janel Shoun |

Lipscomb University and David Lipscomb Campus Schools debuted a new phone exchange this week: 966.

All on-campus phone extensions, including the elementary school campus, will remain the same, but now they can all be reached by dialing the 966 exchange. The toll-free numbers will not be affected by this change.

The number to reach the university switchboard is now 966-1000. The numbers to reach the David Lipscomb Campus Schools are 966-1783 for the elementary school, 966-1785 for the middle school, and 966-1784 for the high school.

Currently, the Lipscomb campus uses three different exchanges – 269, 279 and 386. For the next seven months, employees can be reached at these exchanges as well the new 966 exchange.

Faced with growth that would have required the campus to go to a fourth phone exchange, officials decided to consolidate all the phone numbers on campus to one prefix to create a uniform phone numbering system.

This past summer Lipscomb submitted a request for a new exchange, providing up to 10,000 numbers. This exchange will accommodate all of the 269, 279 and 386 numbers while also allowing for future growth and demand.
