Lipscomb endows a professorship in honor of accountant Charles Frasier

An endowed professorship has been established to honor one of Lipscomb University’s most respected faculty members.
College of Business Dean Turney Stevens announced The Charles E. Frasier Professorship of Accounting at a dinner Tuesday, Feb. 26, in honor of Frasier, who is professor and chair of the department of accounting, finance and economics. Frasier will be the first to hold the professorship.
Four Lipscomb accounting graduates took the lead in establishing the professorship: David (’81) and Rita (’81) Solomon, and Marty (’77) and Jane (’76) Kittrell, who have since been joined by a host of other alumni and friends. David Solomon and Marty Kittrell are members of Lipscomb’s Board of Trustees.
According to the founding agreement, the professorship was established “in recognition of the influence of Charles E. Frasier in the lives and careers of the donors and countless other former students, on the accounting program’s recognized heritage of excellence and on the accounting profession at large.”
Its purpose is to “perpetuate the values, integrity and professional standards epitomized by Frasier as future generations continue and build upon the strong business instruction programs that have characterized the College of Business at Lipscomb University.”
“Charles Frasier’s impact on his students and on the excellence and character of the accounting profession in Middle Tennessee and beyond is incalculable,” said David and Rita Solomon.
“We know there are many who share our appreciation for Charles and the knowledge, values and standards he ingrained in us. It is essential that we perpetuate those characteristics in future students and practitioners. The Frasier Professorship gives us that opportunity,” they said.
Frasier, who holds the Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and Master Teacher designations, joined the Lipscomb faculty in September 1971. He was named to chair the department of accounting in 1986, and the department was expanded to include finance and economics in 2012. He was a partner in Frasier, Dean and Howard from 1975-2010, a firm that provides audit and tax services, business planning and business development services.
Endowed professorships allow the university to attract, retain and recognize exceptional faculty while providing a consistent source of funding for use in research, teaching, service and unique extracurricular learning opportunities.
Nearly $650,000 has been raised to endow the professorship permanently, but the goal is to secure $1 million and advance the professorship to a chair.
