As Lipscomb University celebrated its 125th anniversary on Oct. 5, the Lipscomb community is keeping the celebration going all year with various events and activities. One noteworthy event is the revival of Lipscomb’s Homecoming, Nov. 4-6.

The Lipscomb University Alumni Association has been working hard to revive Homecoming and present a weekend full of events that honor Lipscomb’s past homecoming traditions as well as incorporate some new and exciting surprises in honor of Lipscomb turning 125.

“Homecoming 2016 will be an opportunity for Lipscomb alumni to come home and reconnect with classmates, faculty, staff and friends,” said Phil Ellenburg, vice president of alumni relations. “It will have a welcoming, familiar feel, but will include new and exciting events like the ‘Lipscomb Honors: An Evening of Story and Song’ and the return of the homecoming musical, but most of all, Homecoming will be a time for all of us to be reminded of the powerful ways God moved during our years at Lipscomb and of our place in that journey.”

There are over 30 events planned for homecoming weekend and there is something for everyone. Ellenburg said that the Alumni Relations staff is most excited to present the new keynote event, “Lipscomb Honors: An Evening of Story and Song,” on Friday, Nov. 4, at the Country Music Hall of Fame.

“The evening will feature stories of the exponential impact featured alumni have had on individuals and communities,” Ellenburg said. “In addition to their inspiring stories of faith, perseverance and success, the evening will be highly entertaining, as well. We will be showcasing two world class writers who will be performing and sharing the stories behind their No. 1 hit songs. We also have a special surprise performer who will be sure to delight the crowd.”

The Lipscomb Honors are the highest honor conferred upon alumni and recognize the inspiring ways Lipscomb alumni are making a profound impact in the world.  The event will highlight the unique ways alumni contribute to and make a lasting impact on humankind far beyond the borders of Lipscomb’s campus.

Along with honoring alumni, there are also several opportunities available for alumni to catch up with former classmates as well as their favorite faculty and staff at numerous other events being hosted by the various colleges on campus. Former members of social clubs will also have a chance to reunite, as many social clubs will be hosting reunion events during the weekend.

Ellenburg hopes that this year’s homecoming revival will be a reminder to alumni of how special it is to be apart of the Lipscomb family.

“We want our alumni to be reminded of the wonderful relationships, amazing faculty and outstanding experiences they enjoyed during their time on campus,” said Ellenburg. “We want them to be inspired by stories of their classmates, encouraged by time spent reconnecting and reminiscing, and excited by the future that lies ahead for their alma mater.”
