If you are headed out to Lighting fo the Green Tuesday, Dec. 1, don't miss the Branches of Love Hall of Christmas Trees in McQuiddy Gymnasium, adjacent to Allen Arena. Lipscomb students, faculty and staff, and members of the local community have banded together this tree-decorating contest to benefit needy familis in Nashville.

The project is sponsored by the Lipscomb University Student Alumni Association.

“Sounds of the Season” is the theme for this year’s competition, which encourages teams of four from local businesses and organizations, student groups or academic departments to decorate a four-foot tree that will later be donated to a needy family through Youth Encouragement Services (YES).

All the trees will be on display throughout Lighting of the Green. In addition, one full-size tree decorated by Knestrick by Design will be on sale by silent auction, with proceeds benefitting the families of YES.

Last year’s competition resulted in 40 Christmas trees for needy families.

This year teams chose one of three themes to inspire their decorations:
  • Faith Hill’s version of “What Child is This,” focusing on the nativity story.
  • Julie Andrew’s “My Favorite Things,” focusing on the team’s favorite things about Christmas while growing up.
  • Perry Como’s “Toy Land,” which is all about the toys.
