Leadership Center presents Stanford's Damon Dec. 5

Stanford University's Dr. William Damon will speak on "Leaders Who Care" during a breakfast hosted by Lipscomb University's Center for Leadership Excellence Dec. 5 at 7:30 a.m. in Allen Arena, 3901 Granny White Pike. The event is sponsored by the Caroline J. Cross Chair of Family and Consumer Sciences at Lipscomb University. The breakfast is free and open to the public but reservations are required by Dec. 1. Damon is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, the director of the Stanford Center on Adolescence, and a professor of education at Stanford University. Damon's current research explores how young people develop character and a sense of moral purpose in work, family, and community relationships. He also examines how young people can approach careers with an emphasis on creative innovation, excellence, and social responsibility, said Dr. Grady Bogue, consulting scholar to Lipscomb's Center for Leadership Excellence. Damon's most recent book is Bringing in a New Era in Character Education (2001). Earlier books include The Youth Charter: How Communities Can Work Together to Raise Standards for All Our Children (1997), Greater Expectations: Overcoming the Culture of Indulgence in Our Homes and Schools (1995); and The Moral Child (1990). Damon is editor in chief of New Directions for Child and Adolescent Development and The Handbook of Child Psychology and is an elected member of the National Academy of Education.
