John Roberson named Lipscomb's Alumni Association President

John Roberson, 1989 Lipscomb graduate, was recently named president of the Lipscomb University Alumni Association according to Mark Meador, senior director of Alumni Relations.

“John is an innovative entrepreneur and gifted communicator. His commitment and passion for the university has led us to him. We look forward to working with John as we strive to meet the needs of our alumni around the world,” said Meador.

Serving at Lipscomb will be nothing new for Roberson. As president of Advent Marketing Results, a Nashville company designed to help businesses engage their clients effectively through creative environment and lobby designs, retail displays, event marketing and strategic promotions, Roberson uses his professional talents and team to enhance some of Lipscomb’s campus-based initiatives such as the mission center in the new Ezell building, recruiting and athletics displays, convocation, inauguration set designs and Lighting of the Green Christmas concert. Advent also contributed to the community-focused events including Lighting of the Green and Nashville’s First Logo Design Competition.

Roberson and his wife, Kathryn Dean Roberson (’89), enjoyed their time at Lipscomb as students and participate in many campus events as alumni. “We are now looking forward to serving as an ambassador to other alumni,” Roberson said. “I want alumni to know about our successes at Lipscomb and know about all of the fabulous events they can take advantage of. I want to help perpetuate the legacy of excellence Lipscomb is founded upon and help Lipscomb continue to thrive as it experiences this reawakening on campus.”

The Alumni Relations Office at Lipscomb University recently announced plans for the 2007 Alumni Connection Events to bring all alumni back to campus. These events are designed specifically with alumni in mind and will be in lieu of a traditional “Homecoming” in 2007.  Lipscomb wants to provide alumni with numerous opportunities to come back to campus and renew friendships with classmates and faculty, all centered around a variety of activities focusing on different areas of interests. There will be something for everyone throughout the year.

Included in these various alumni events will be the more “traditional” Homecoming activities such as the introduction of the Homecoming Queen and Court (which took place during halftime of the Belmont game), class/college reunions, social club and service club reunions, Distinguished Alumni Awards, ballgames and more. Some of the activities that are being considered as Alumni Connection Events for 2007 are the March 8-10 Singarama Weekend, an April LU baseball family night, a fall Outstanding Alumnus of the Year weekend celebration and the fall and spring alumni concert series.

“Lipscomb University is a thriving, exciting place,” Roberson states. “We are excited about helping alumni reconnect with each other and with the university as a whole. Alumni have many opportunities to participate in Lipscomb events such as business forums offered through the new Institute for Conflict Management, sporting events on and off campus, concerts and exhibits. By serving at Lipscomb, we are paying tribute to the institution we graduated from and the faculty and staff that left lasting impressions. Kathryn and I feel that the value and benefit of Lipscomb extend past graduation.  We want to aide in reconnecting alumni with each other and with the other ways Lipscomb can serve them today.”

John and Kathryn have four sons.  They are active members of their church and also serve extensively in the larger community with Youth Encouragement Services, Morning Star Sanctuary and Encouragement Ministries. John Roberson and the Advent team also recently partnered with the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce to give the Chamber’s lobby a makeover to make a better and bolder impression on visitors and members to the building.
