students shoveling snow_212:30 P.M. WEATHER UPDATE • SAT., JAN. 23, 2016

Good morning! As the sun has risen on the “day after” the big snowstorm, we can appreciate the wonder of the creation around us and the beauty of the people in this community who have come together to do what needs to be done to take care of each other.

We greatly appreciate your patience and cooperation yesterday as we responded to the ever-changing weather situation.

A good bit of work has taken place through the night and early this morning to continue to clear sidewalks, roads and parking lots on campus as well as to ensure the comfort and wellbeing of our students. Last night a snowplow helped clear campus parking lots and some sidewalks, and a number of students joined in the effort by shoveling snow in the square, in front of the library and behind the arena. We have generators onsite in the event of any unexpected power issues. Food service has continued to have hot meals for our students, with plenty of food in reserve. There is a Lipscomb team in place monitoring the situation continually and planning for unexpected challenges that may arise so we will be prepared and able to respond quickly.

This morning at 10 a.m., a group of students and employees gathered in Bison Square with snow shovels to assist the Campus Service Operations team to help clear the sidewalk between Crisman and Allen Bell Tower and other areas. In addition to taking care of our students and campus, we have reached out to offer support to various local organizations in town that are also working tirelessly to serve Nashvillians who have been impacted by the storm. Later today, a group of students will head to Room in the Inn to serve warm drinks and play games with those seeking shelter there.

8:00 P.M. WEATHER UPDATE • Jan. 22, 2016

We greatly appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as together we navigate today’s snowstorm and the impact it has had on our operation.

bison square snow_2016_250So many of you have served this community today by going the extra mile not only in your work, but in seeing a need and filling that need. We have had employees selflessly volunteering to work second shifts, students lending a helping hand in food service, and residence hall directors offering round-the-clock hot chocolate just to name a few examples of what it means to be Lipscomb at times such as this. As you can see in the picture above, our students are outside at this very moment helping our Campus Service Operations team clear Bison Square.

In this final email for today, Friday, Jan. 22, we wanted to pass along a few reminders and updates for Saturday, Jan. 23:

johnson snow_250Saturday morning at 10 a.m. we are inviting volunteers who are able to get to campus to bring their snow shovels and come to Bison Square to assist our Campus Service Operations team in continuing to clean the sidewalks, roads and other key areas on campus. At times like this, our community often comes together to help each other and to pitch in to get a job done. It sure would be a big help to our Campus Service Operations team who has worked round the clock today to make campus safe for all.

We will continue to monitor the impact of this winter storm on campus activities and operations and send updates as needed throughout the weekend.

Continue to use caution and discretion as you venture outside on campus, at your homes and on the road. If you must travel this weekend, please check with highway departments in your area to determine road conditions.
