At the August open house high tea, Honors College Director Paul Prill visited with students in the program's new headquarters.

The new Honors College hub, a 2,600-square-foot remodeled free-standing home on the north side of campus, has been full of activity this school year, including an official open house on August 29.

“It feels like going home or away from campus,” said Austin Travis, a sophomore political science and history major.

The college served high tea and debuted the new space, which significantly increases the program’s square footage with a classroom space, study areas, common areas, a kitchen and outdoor common areas as well as the college offices. The new Honors Student Council has already hosted numerous social events and study nights at the house, which honors students say gives them a home away from home.

Audrey Inmon, a senior commercial music production major, appreciates the new Honors house as a way to connect with students involved in Lipscomb’s other academic colleges, she said.

Aijalon Powell, a senior studying entrepreneurship, likes the increase in space from the old office in Elam Hall. “There’s not a lot of opportunities to get the whole Honors College together, so it’s cool to have a place like this,” he said at the grand opening tea.

Students praised the ability to use the kitchen for get-togethers with friends and having a quiet spot where they knew they could find like-minded study mates. Because it is a house, “it feels like going home or away from campus,” said Austin Travis, a sophomore political science and history major. “It has a totally different feel from the rest of the university.”

“We come here a lot to study. It’s great fellowship and community. You get to experience so much more than studying alone,” said Grace Kwock, a freshman in the animation program.
