Lipscomb University’s Master of Science in Health Care Informatics has once again ranked among the best in the nation. During the 2020-21 academic year, it has been ranked nationally by three organizations.
In April, Lipscomb’s Health Care Informatics program, housed in the College of Pharmacy, was ranked the 24th “Best Masters in Healthcare Informatics” in the country by CollegeChoice. Lipscomb was ranked among the best in the nation with institutions such as the University of Michigan, Johns Hopkins University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and the University of Kansas.
“Congratulations, once again, to our Health Care Informatics program on another top national ranking,” says Tom Campbell, dean of the College of Pharmacy. “The students, faculty and staff have done an excellent job of making this program a success. In particular, a special thank you to the director of the program, Dr. Beth Breeden, who has provided visionary leadership and expert instruction for the program. The students receiving their degree or certificate from this program continue to impact the healthcare community in so many ways as the importance of digital health continues to grow.”
College Choice considered a number of factors in their methodology for the ranking including academic quality, affordability, return on investment and student satisfaction using retention rates and graduation rates. They also factor resources at U.S. News & World Report and the statistics at Payscale.com in the ranking.
“We are delighted to receive another national ranking for the HCI programs and appreciate this valuable recognition so very much,” said Breeden, the chair of Lipscomb’s health care informatics program. “We are proud of the great team effort by our students, graduates, staff, faculty and administration who continually make this program one of the best in the nation year in and year out. Efforts in healthcare informatics advance America's healthcare daily and it is exciting to see our students, faculty and graduates as leaders and change agents contributing to this good work.”
In February topmastersinhealthcare.com ranked Lipscomb’s program #20 in the nation. Joining Lipscomb in the Top 20 are Harvard University, Duke University, Stanford University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and Vanderbilt University. Lipscomb placed above schools such as Saint Louis University, the University of Washington and the University of Iowa. The ranking is based on several factors that positively benefit students, including quality, financial considerations and online flexibility.
In addition, Lipscomb was ranked in the 2020 Top 50 “Best Masters in Healthcare Informatics” by Value Colleges. Joining Lipscomb in the Top 50 are Stanford University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Columbia University, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, George Washington University and Vanderbilt University among others.
Value Colleges rankings are based on three factors: cost (current IPEDS data), reputation (current U.S. News & World Report ranking) and success (average alumni salary). By taking these metrics into account, Value Colleges determine which schools are most likely to provide a strong return on a graduate’s investment of time, work and money. According to Value College, these are the health informatics degrees that show the best combination of job market pull, educational excellence, and real-world returns.
Lipscomb’s Master of Science in Health Care Informatics program includes multidisciplinary training in health sciences, information technology and business analytics, which provides students the ability to interact effectively with clinicians, administrators, business leaders and IT professionals as well as understanding the challenges of each role. Students benefit greatly from a program based in Nashville, the nation’s healthcare capital. With nearly 400 healthcare organizations located in Nashville, students are able to have immersive experiences with the community thereby enhancing their course of study.
This exciting field is expected to grow 20 percent in the coming years. Students are able to translate their passions into enhancing and transforming health care delivery and outcomes. They become equipped to improve quality of care and reduce health care costs, making the industry more efficient and economical.
The program is designed for those with busy schedules by offering the program exclusively on weekends, with 42-hour coursework delivered in just 12 months, plus two months to finalize individual capstone project work. Students are placed in a cohort so they stay with the same students through the entire program learning from, supporting and networking with each other. The program is designed to prepare students for jobs in hospitals, healthcare consulting, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, insurance companies, governmental agencies and health-related software companies, business, and industry among many others.
