Lipscomb University welcomes Grammy-nominated Eroica Trio to campus TONIGHT, April 4, for a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Ward Hall, as part of the College of Entertainment & the Arts’ Artist Series.

EroicaTrio_NEWLARGEThe most sought-after trio in the world, the Eroica Trio, featuring Erika Nickrenz, piano; Sara Parkins, violin; and Sara Sant’Ambrogio, cello; has enraptured audiences with flawless technical virtuosity, irresistible enthusiasm and sensual elegance since 1986.

In 1991, the Eroica Trio won the prestigious Naumburg Award, and since, the all-female chamber ensemble has toured the United States, Europe, Middle East, South America and Asia. The trio has also released eight critically acclaimed recordings for Angel/EMI Classics Records, which have garnered multiple Grammy nominations throughout the years.

During the April 4 concert, sponsored by the School of Music, the trio will perform works by Loeillet, Villa-Lobos, Piazzolla, Schoenfeld and Dvorak. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and Lipscomb employees. Lipscomb students will receive free admission. To purchase tickets, click here or contact the box office at 615-966-7075.

“We are thrilled and honored to welcome the Eroica Trio to Lipscomb’s campus,” said Jerome Reed, the Patricia and Rodes Hart Professor of Piano. “To have a group that famous playing in our venue is incredible, and I believe this concert will show the community the importance of the School of Music.”

Reed says Lipscomb has had a connection with the Eroica Trio for several years as cellist Sara Sant’Ambrogio has taught university master classes as well as helped both the Avalon Trio III and Avalon Trio IV, two university student trios, prepare for past competitions.

Sant’Ambrogio, who lived in Nashville for four years and still considers it a second home, says although this is her first time playing with the trio at Lipscomb, she often plays at other Nashville venues and is excited to welcome both Lipscomb and Nashville community members to the show.

“At an Eroica Trio concert we feel like we are the hosts at what we hope is the very best party in town,” said Sant’Ambrogio. “We want the audience leaving feeling that all of their sense and emotions have been stimulated. We are starting with a beautiful jewel of a Baroque trio sonata, then to cleanse the palate a couple of tangos by the tango king Astor Piazzolla and a gorgeous Aria by the Brazilian composer Villa-Lobos and then end the first half with an American masterpiece by Paul Schoenfeld that has echoes of ragtime and African American spirituals and just gets the audience dancing in their seats! After intermission we are performing one of the great ‘war horses’ of the trio repertoire, Dvorak's Dumky trio, which is hugely romantic and unbelievably exciting.”

Reed says he is eager for Lipscomb students within the School of Music to witness the talent of the world-renowned trio first-hand, and appreciates the ways in which the Eroica Trio have inspired today’s musical realm with their arrangements of various composers’ works.

“The Eroica Trio plays so fabulously and has been a champion for several newer pieces such as Paul Schoenfeld’s Café Music,” said Reed. “That piece has become very well known because of the Eroica Trio’s performance of it. Our guys trio at Lipscomb has played it, I have played it and I don’t know if any of us would’ve played that piece if it hadn’t been for the Eroica Trio’s recording.

“We hope that the community will join us in welcoming the Eroica Trio to campus and share in what will surely be a significant night.”

The School of Music is the artistic hub of all things music at Lipscomb University. A cornerstone of the College of Entertainment & the Arts, the school represents the intersection of robust musical tradition and current innovation. Classical music students sharpen their skills in one of the many ensembles at Lipscomb, and contemporary students begin working in Nashville’s professional music scene from day one. The faculty, adjuncts and guest musicians fill an impressive calendar of performances, master classes and studio lessons.

In April 2015, the university achieved internationally respected “All-Steinway” status and now provides its students only Steinway pianos for lessons, practicing and performing, moving to the higher level of musicianship this superb instrument provides and demands.
