From the moment Selena Fritz stepped onto the Lipscomb University campus during her college search more than four years ago, she knew it was going to be her home for the next four years.

“I just felt a sense of peace,” says the Kingston Springs native. It was a place where Fritz could pursue her love of music and a career in business. She has played the oboe since age 13 and always had a passion for studying music. In addition, she also wanted to major in finance to prepare for her career. On Saturday, she will walk across the stage of Allen Arena as a member of the December Class of 2023 to celebrate earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance through the College of Business and a Bachelor of Arts in music through the George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts

Fritz says Lipscomb was the only university she found that supported her dream of pursuing a double major.

“I chose Lipscomb for so many reasons,” explains Fritz. “They were the only school that was going to let me double major. The College of Business was also ranked as the top business undergrad program in Tennessee, and I wanted to have a good quality education. The fact that Lipscomb is a Christian University was also a big draw. My faith plays an integral role in my life, and finding a school that would support me and encourage me in this walk was important to me.”

“Choosing Lipscomb was one of the best decisions of my life. One of the greatest things about Lipscomb was how genuine and caring the professors are,” she continues. “I know that each professor was truly doing their best to help set me up for success.”

After graduating from high school in 2015, Fritz worked as a nanny and preschool teacher for four years before enrolling in Lipscomb in 2019. Two years later, she had an international accounting internship at Trans World Radio (TWR) on the island of Guam. After the internship ended, they offered her a remote, part-time position where she worked during the school year. In 2022, they asked her to come back to the island and work for them during that summer.

Meanwhile, in 2021, Fritz volunteered as a red-carpet host at the Dove Awards and connected with artist Josh Wright. The following year, she started a new role as Wright’s manager. She soon shifted roles and began working for the artist’s real estate company, The Wright Group. Today, Fritz works part time as the director of operations for The Wright Group while taking classes, working on her double major.

This summer she began working part time at KBFM Entertainment Business and Management where she blended her interest in music and finance. Fritz will continue working there full time after graduation. She will also continue her part time position with The Wright Group and teaching oboe lessons.

Fritz says she has had a great experience at Lipscomb. One of her most memorable experiences is taking a wintermester Bible class in Israel.
“This experience brought the Bible more ‘to life’ and I will remember this experience for the rest of my life,” she says.

She also says many professors and faculty members have impacted her while a Lipscomb student. “However, I would like to specifically say a big thank you to Dr. Ben Blasko for believing in me, and even encouraging me to double major,” explains Fritz. “He believed that I could do it before I was even a student at Lipscomb. It took a lot of work to be able to accomplish this, but thanks to Dr. Blasko for always being a constant source of inspiration to me.”

Completing her dream of a double-major is a bittersweet moment for Fritz.

“I’m excited to graduate, yet I know that I’m going to miss my Lipscomb home,” says Fritz. “I’m grateful for all of the opportunities that Lipscomb has brought to me and all the friendships I’ve made along the way. I truly am proud to be graduating from such an incredible University.”
