Winner to receive up to $40,000 scholarship for video that best reflects how Lipscomb’s graduate business degree will impact entrant’s life

With the student loan debt crisis heating up, Lipscomb University’s College of Business has found an innovative solution for prospective graduate business students.

According to the Foundation for Economic Education, the total national student debt is nearly $1 trillion with the average college graduate owing more than $25,000 on student loans. Universities are developing solutions to help students obtain undergraduate and graduate degrees that do not add to a student’s debt load.

Students have a unique opportunity to win a full-tuition scholarship to pursue a graduate business degree at Lipscomb University. Lipscomb University’s graduate studies in business program has launched the first ONE DEGREE AWAY FROM MAKING A DIFFERENCE SCHOLARSHIP Video Contest, where the winner of a full scholarship will be awarded to the video entry receiving the most votes online.

Applicants to the graduate studies in business are encouraged to submit a simple two minute video sharing how they want to make a difference in their organization, community, or the world and how a graduate business degree from Lipscomb University will help them do it.

“Lipscomb’s graduate studies in business program has built a reputation as a cutting-edge program with a track record for producing emerging leaders prepared to make a difference in the world. This scholarship contest is our way of making it possible for someone with dreams of effecting positive change in an industry or community to receive the support they need to help realize those dreams,” said Turney Stevens, dean of Lipscomb’s College of Business.

Five finalists will be chosen from entries received by the June 15 deadline and will be posted on the onedegreeaway.lipscomb.edu YouTube channel for voting between June 28 to July 15. Finalists have an extra incentive to spread the word virally, using their Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media accounts, as friends, family, colleagues and network connections are allowed to vote once a day for their video.

“Today’s promising leaders already have strong social media skills and a built-in network of friends, family, co-workers and professionals they communicate with everyday anyway. This gives them an easy, powerful way to employ that network to spread the word about the contest while soliciting and securing votes for their video entries,” said Lisa Shacklett, assistant dean of Lipscomb’s College of Business.

The winner will receive a full scholarship worth up to $40,250 to the graduate business degree program of their choice — the MBA, Professional MBA, Master of Human Resources or Master of Accountancy – beginning Fall 2012.
