Galbreath appointed Lipscomb University's first Presidential Faculty Fellow

 |

Dr. Susan C. Galbreath, has been appointed Lipscomb University's first Presidential Faculty Fellow, President Randy Lowry has announced.

Galbreath, professor of accounting and interim dean of the College of Business at Lipscomb, has been appointed to the one-year assignment effective Jan. 1, 2006.

"Dr. Galbreath is one of Lipscomb's outstanding faculty members and has demonstrated excellent leadership skills as she served the College of Business as interim dean. During her time working in the president's office, she will provide a great deal of insight into the faculty perspective and will play a significant role as we begin this administration," said Lowry, who has officially taken office as Lipscomb University's 17th president.

"The purpose of the Presidential Faculty Fellow program is to engage our faculty members and involve them in the administrative process at the university. The Presidential Faculty Fellow will help me better understand the issues and concerns of the faculty and will also aid faculty in learning more about how a university administration operates."

Lowry said the role of the Presidential Faculty Fellow is to assist him with special projects and research initiatives that relate to the university's academic program as well as strategic planning. In addition, Galbreath will be a member of the president's senior leadership team, the first time a faculty member has served in that body.

"This is a great opportunity for a faculty member to gain insight into the leadership of this institution. It will give us a 'behind-the-scenes' look at how multi-faceted the decision-making process is and see that process through the eyes of the administration. I look forward to serving the president and the university in this new role," said Galbreath.

Provost Craig Bledsoe said Galbreath is a good choice to fill this new role.

"Susan has done an outstanding job as interim dean in the College of Business. She has taken an interim situation and has moved the college forward as it prepares to embark on a new accreditation process. She has served as a very effective leader in that situation and will provide a great deal of insight to the president as he begins his tenure at Lipscomb," said Bledsoe.

Bledsoe said the Presidential Faculty Fellow program will "allow an opportunity for faculty to be involved in the administration and to take what they learn through the process back to the faculty."

"The program will also provide the university a means to train future leaders," he said.

Galbreath joined the Lipscomb University College of Business faculty in Fall 2001. Previously, she was on the faculty at Tennessee Technological University and East Carolina University. She received an undergraduate degree in accounting from Tennessee Technological University. She also received the master of accountancy and the doctor of philosophy degrees from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. A certified public accountant, Galbreath served as interim dean in the College of Business from June 2004 through December 2005. Earlier this year, she was awarded the 2005 Outstanding Accounting Educator Award by the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.
