Fourth Annual Lighting of the Green brings Santa and surprises to campus

Chris Pepple |

President and Mrs. Randy Lowry invite you to join the Lipscomb family for an evening of holiday festivities on Tuesday, December 2, from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. for the fourth annual Lighting of the Green which will blend tradition with surprises sure to delight all ages. The Lighting of the Green will display thousands of holiday lights between Granny White Pike and Belmont Boulevard in front of Allen Arena. Decorated trees will embellish the mall area, creating a cheerful, celebratory atmosphere. Santa will be present, and food items will be available. A new feature this year will be Branches of Love, a Christmas tree decorating contest hosted by the Lipscomb University Student Alumni Association (SAA). The SAA is partnering with local businesses to benefit Youth Encouragement Services, donating the decorated trees to families in need this holiday season.

This year’s celebrity guests will soon be announced. Additionally, our grand chorus with students from both the campus school and the university will perform as we usher in the Christmas season. At the end of the event, we will flip the ceremonial switch and holiday lights will fill the branches of the large decorated tree.

The event is free of charge and open to the public. Current sponsors for this year’s event include C. O. Christian and Sons Co., Inc; Williams Wholesale Supply; Blakeford at Green Hills; D. F. Chase, Tuck-Hinton Architects, Lee Company and CareHere LLC. Opportunities are also still available for you or your business to partner with Lipscomb for this exciting event.
