Former CEO, AT&T Southeastern elected new chair of Lipscomb board

David Scobey, former president and CEO of AT&T Southeastern Region, has been elected chair of the Lipscomb University board of trustees.

 

Scobey was officially seated as the board chair at the university’s quarterly board meeting Friday, Nov. 4.

 

“David Scobey brings great perspective and leadership to the university. His expertise will be instrumental in guiding the institution as it nears its 125^th anniversary. I look forward to partnering with him and taking Lipscomb to its next level of excellence and service,” said Lipscomb University President L. Randolph Lowry.

 

Scobey, who has served on the board for four years, said he looks forward to building on the recent growth of the university.

 

“Lipscomb is a unique place with a unique mission, I have enjoyed watching how it blesses the lives of its students, faculty, staff, alumni and community,” said Scobey, a Nashville native. “I’m looking forward to continuing the academic and spiritual growth we have experienced. We will also continue to make the financial investments in the institution so we can serve for the next 120 years as we have the past 120 years.”

 

Scobey succeeds Hilton Dean, the former New York City-based vice chairman of Ernst & Young, LLP. Dean is concluding an eight-year tenure as board chair.

 

“Lipscomb University has been blessed with Hilton’s tremendous leadership skill, his vision that would take us beyond what we were to what we could be and his tenacity day in and day out to drive the institution to reach those objectives,” said Lowry.

 

Scobey spent more than 30 years of his career at AT&T/BellSouth. In his career, Scobey developed a leadership reputation as a fix-it artist and is known for his team building, customer and front-line employee focus and people development. He began his career in the network engineering and operations side of the business and went on to work in product development, product management, marketing and sales – including federal government, national accounts and small business, change management, strategic management and general management.
