Financial professionals invited to charitable tax strategies workshop

Lipscomb University will hold a seminar on charitable tax strategies for attorneys, trust officers, investment advisors, CLUs and CPAs at 8 a.m. until noon, Thursday, Dec. 13, in the Ezell Center on the Lipscomb campus in Green Hills. The seminar, approved for up to three continuing education credits will feature Winton C. Smith Jr.

A nationally recognized consultant and charitable tax strategist, Smith will lead this special estate and tax planning seminar, providing tips on topics such as family limited partnerships, pension plan gifts, charitable retirement plans and wealth replacement trusts. Smith is known for his insight into the nuances of planned giving and for his ability to render complex legal matters into everyday language.

Below is the schedule for the half-day seminar:

8:30-9:30 a.m., Charitable Contribution Tax Strategies

Discussing current gifts, cash gifts, gifts of closely held stock, appreciated stock, S Corporation stock, real estate, personal property, pension plan gifts, depreciated property, percentage interest gifts and charitable deduction limitations.

9:45-10:45 a.m., Charitable Contribution that Provide a Life Income
Charitable remainder unitrusts, charitable remainder annuity trusts, wealth replacement trusts, charitable gift annuities, and pooled income funds.

11:00 a.m.-Noon, Charitable Contribution through Wills
Charitable bequests, testamentary charitable remainder unitrusts, testamentary charitable gift annuities, testamentary pooled income funds, limited liability companies, family limited partnerships, charitable lead trusts and life estate contracts.
