Family Weekend 2018 offers sneak peek into student life

Friday, Oct. 5 at 12 p.m. to Sunday, Oct. 7 at 10 p.m.
The families of Lipscomb students are invited to campus this weekend for a three-day glimpse into their college students’ life on campus.
This weekend, Oct. 5-7 will be full of family events that showcase what life is like for Lipscomb students. Families are encouraged to have coffee with the provost, to eat breakfast with the president, to enjoy musical performances from the students and to tour some local spots around Nashville.
“Family Weekend is a great opportunity for parents to engage in campus life at Lipscomb,” said Monica Wentworth, director of the career development center and coordinator of the family weekend. “We encourage families to enjoy Lipscomb, see Nashville and stay connected.”
For an afternoon pick-me-up on Friday, Oct. 5, provost Craig Bledsoe and faculty will host a coffee to give parents a glimpse of their student’s academic experience.
On Saturday, Oct. 6, at 7:15 a.m. run on over to Allen Arena to register for the Bison Boogie 5k and support Lipscomb’s IDEAL program, which equips young adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities with life and career skills.
If running isn’t your forte, come and cheer on the women’s softball team Saturday at 10 a.m., as they take on Belmont University in an exhibition tournament. The women’s soccer team needs your support too, as they battle Liberty University Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m.
Family Weekend allows parents to see that Lipscomb offers students an environment that encourages academic, cultural and spiritual growth, whether it is in the classroom, or out and about in the Nashville.
“Families tell us they love Family Weekend because they are able to meet faculty, staff and friends of their students,” said Wentworth. “Most of all, they get to see their students in their new environment.”
Tours of Nashville will visit sites that showcase both the history of Lipscomb and of Nashville. On Saturday, Oct. 6, there will be opportunities to visit Radnor Lake, David and Margaret Lipscomb’s home on the Lipscomb campus and historic landmarks throughout the city.
After a day full of learning and experiencing life as your students do, have a seat in Collins Auditorium and enjoy the tunes at the Tau Phi Cowboy show. This is an annual event in which members of Tau Phi social club perform some of the most recent country hits and some throwbacks from the earlier days of country. The show will begin at 7 p.m. and is $10 per person.
