Ellis Symposium to focus on Freed

Longtime educator and evangelist A.G. Freed will be the focus of the Carroll B. Ellis Symposium on Restoration Preaching, to be held at Lipscomb University's Center for Spiritual Renewal Aug. 10.
The event will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the center, 811 Caldwell Lane, Nashville, and is open to the public. A $10 symposium fee will cover lunch and materials.
Freed's life and work will be explored by Ancil Jenkins, writer, missionary and minister of the Jamestown (Tenn.) Church of Christ.
Jenkins is author of "Biography of A Gentleman: A.G. Freed," as well as a book on prayer and a commentary on the Gospel of Mark.
Freed was president of five schools during his lifetime, and was a founder of the university that today bears his name - Freed-Hardeman University, Henderson, Tenn. He served as Lipscomb University's first vice president from 1923 until his death in 1931.
Freed was also an active evangelist, establishing churches of Christ throughout the South.
