Eight new faculty join the college in 2018

The College of Pharmacy & Health Science has welcomed eight new faculty members since August 2018.

Sarah Collier, assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences, earned a bachelor’s degree from DePaul University, a master’s from the University of Kentucky and a Ph.D. in pathology, microbiology and immunology from Vanderbilt University. She came to Lipscomb from the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research where she served as senior project manager. Previous to that, she served as health information systems project manager at BioVU, Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s flagship biorepository program.

Linda K. Elrod, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, earned a bachelor’s degree from Lipscomb University, a master’s from Middle Tennessee State University and Master of Science in Medicine from Trevecca Nazarene University. She came from St. Thomas Medical Partners in Nashville where she worked in internal medicine. She is passionate about health care for the poor and vulnerable, having worked in medical missions in Uganda, Papua New Guinea, Guatemala and Honduras, as well as in rural medicine in Beersheba Springs, Tennessee.

Susan E. Hamblin, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, earned a bachelor’s degree and a Pharm.D. from the University of Mississippi. She has practiced as the trauma clinical pharmacist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center since 2010. Her research interests over the past several years have included traumatic brain injury, venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in trauma and mentorship of students. She holds Board Certification in pharmacotherapy and critical care pharmacy.

Sarah Hayden, assistant professor of nursing, earned her bachelor’s from Washburn University and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Belmont University. She is a board certified family nurse practitioner and has presented her research both locally and nationally. Her professional interests include: chronic disease self-management, patient education, global health and the use of simulation in nursing education.

Gail E. Humes, associate professor of nursing, earned her bachelor’s degree at Cumberland University, her master’s at the University of Alabama and her Doctor of Nursing Practice at Union University. She comes to Lipscomb from Cumberland University with more than 10 years’ experience educating both BSN and MSN nursing students in the classroom, clinical and online settings. Her primary area of instruction is in medical-surgical and pathophysiology. She is also an acute care nurse practitioner with an interest in gerontology.

Laurel L. Littlefield, associate professor of exercise science, earned her bachelor’s at Lubbock Christian University, her master’s at Texas Tech University and her Ph.D. at Baylor University. Littlefield joined Lipscomb from Lubbock Christian University where she was a professor in the exercise and sport sciences department. Her primary area of emphasis is exercise physiology.  She has research experience relating to postprandial lipemia, weight loss and maximal lactate steady state exercise.

Tracy E. Noerper, assistant professor of nutrition and assistant director for the Dietetics Internship Program, earned her bachelor’s from Abilene Christian University and her master’s and Ph.D. from Middle Tennessee State University. Noerper is a registered and licensed dietitian and an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, where she has served as president and past-president of both the Nashville and Tennessee Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Her research interests are food security and post-secondary online education.

C. Brent Thompson, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, earned his MBA at Winston-Salem State University and his Pharm.D. at the University of Tennessee. With a primary background in pharmacy administration, Thompson most recently comes from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His areas of interest are in management and informatics.
