Life is full of adversity, miracles, challenges, inspiration, obstacles and triumph, but the question is – how can one utilize these circumstances to become a game-changer?

Lipscomb University’s Lifelong Learning program will discover what it means to be a “game-changer” in its Summer Hostel 2016, a week-long program for senior adults filled with interesting classes and travel-learning opportunities, July 4-9.

“Summer Hostel is a week-long event comprised of lectures, field trips, special presentations and travel,” said Amy Hamar, director of Lifelong Learning and senior alumni programs at Lipscomb. “This year will include two lectures each day, one focusing on the ultimate game-changer, Jesus, and the other focusing on living above the things in life that try to change our game.”

Walt Leaver, vice president for university relations at Lipscomb and minister at Brentwood Hills Church of Christ, will lead participants through a class titled “the ultimate game-changer,” and Joy Samuels, adjunct faculty in the psychology department, will lead “to say a good hello, we need to say a good goodbye, how are we welcoming changes without bitterness or regrets.”

“Throughout the daily classes we will be examining the lives of individuals who have risen above the challenges of life and are an inspiration to those who they come in contact with,” said Hamar.

Other highlights of the week include:

  • The Concert Heaven's Encore, The Hymns of Fanny Crosby
  • Tour of the Tennessee School for the Blind
  • Fieldtrip to the Brentwood Baptist Deaf Church
  • Dinner presentation by Dr. Ming Wang
  • Visit to the Davidson County Drug Court Facility
  • Lunch at The Junkyard Dog and Elephant Sanctuary Presentation
  • Daily inspirational lunch speakers
  • Overnight in Florence, Alabama, home of Helen Keller to attend the play The Miracle Worker

Tuition is $550 for day students and $650 for boarding students, which includes room/board, classes, food, transportation during the week, and all fees for field trips and travel. A $100 per person deposit is required with the reservation and is nonrefundable after June 17.

Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first serve basis. Download the printable registration form here.
