During his 26-year career at BellSouth, Scobey has held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility. He began his career in the network engineering and operations side of the business and went on to work in product development, product management, marketing and sales, including federal government, national accounts and small business, change management, strategic management, and general management. Prior to his appointment as president of Small Business Services, Scobey was the president of BellSouth Long Distance and prepared it for all aspects of its nine-state launch. His career has spanned many regulated and unregulated subsidiaries of BellSouth including BellSouth Telecommunications, BellSouth Services, BellSouth Long Distance, BellSouth Advertising and Publishing - the Real Yellow Pages, and BellSouth Corporate.

He has successfully led this team to achieving turnaround growth in a highly competitive market.

A native of Nashville, Scobey holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. In addition, Scobey volunteers as a private and instrument-rated pilot for charitable causes.

The Christian Business Leader of the Year is an annual award at Lipscomb, which seeks to present to students role models who have lived by Christian principles and have been highly successful in business. The award is presented by the university’s College of Business.
