David Lipscomb Elementary School hosts Workshop for Preschool Teachers March 1 

David Lipscomb Elementary School will host a workshop for preschool teachers, directors and administrators March 1 at 8:15 a.m. at David Lipscomb High School, 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville.

A variety of sessions will be offered. Group sessions include "An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure: Developmental Forerunners of Childhood Mental Illness," Dr. Craig A. Clark, Associated Psychiatrists of Nashville; and "Passing on of Faith to Children/A Team Approach," Eddie Plemmons, children and family minister at Woodmont Hills Church of Christ.

Sessions for directors and administrators include: "The Change Process - Key Priniciples of How People Respond to Change and the Stages of its Effective Transition," Plemmons; "Environmental Rating Scale Overview," Kathryn Yoder, technical assistance specialist with IN TOUCH Davidson; and a "Wrap Up Session," with Gail Srygley, principal at David Lipscomb Elementary School.

Preschool teachers may choose two sessions from the following: "Teaching Science Through Literature to Young Children," Jennifer Brown, kindergarten teacher at Hendersonville Bible Kindergarten; "Come Explore New Books that Take You on a Journey Through Laughter, Learning and Exploring," Lisa Hoover, director of children's services at LaVergne Public Library; "A Perfect Pairing: Music and Children's Literature," Marilyn S. Woo, MTSU; "Predicting and Preventing Reading Difficulties in Young Children," Dr. Bobby Bowie, Bowie Reading & Learning Center; "What to Look for in the Development of Fine Motor Skills in Preschool Children," Denise Rose, Agaath van Dorp, and Beth Nabors, occupational therapists at High Hopes Preschool for Children of Special Needs; and "How to Help Parents Hear What You Are Saying," Lisa Bruce, educational consultant at David Lipscomb Campus School. Teachers may also choose one of the following closing sessions: "We are Humans Too - Reading Readiness and Developmental Stages for Infants and Toddlers," Christyna D. Ferrell, director of Schrader Lane Childcare - Vine Hill; and "'A is for America' - Discovering America with Preschoolers for ages 3-5," Marta Pearsall, Linda Walters, Vickie Wilson, and Penny Kuntz, Madison Church of Christ Preschool.
