Community Chorus seeks new members

 |

The Lipscomb University Community Chorus will host its first rehearsal Sept. 19 from 7-9 p.m. at the Harding Hall Choral room on the campus of David Lipscomb High School, 3901 Granny White Pike. The choral ensemble is seeking new members to join the nearly 100 participants from last year, said Robert King, who is chair of the K-12 music department at Lipscomb and is founder and director of the LUCC. "This group was formed for the benefit and enjoyment of two primary groups: Those formerly in quality choruses, and those who have always wanted to be in one," King said. Chorus members come from a varied background ranging from extensive to almost no previous formal music training, King said. LUCC practices and performs the same kind of sacred a cappella literature that has been a Lipscomb tradition for generations. Auditions are not required of participants. Rehearsals are held Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. and the only attendance policy is to come as often as family and work responsibilities allow. "Of course I''d prefer that every singer attend every rehearsal, but that is simply not a reasonable expectation for people who have so many responsibilities," King said. "For many people, chorus was the highlight of their days in school, the dessert atop the 'meat and potatoes' of the academic core curriculum. When they graduate it's as though they were told, 'Now that you are an adult you can no longer have dessert.' LUCC ensures that adults can continue the enrichment that is found in a music ensemble experience." No previous affiliation with Lipscomb is required for participation. For more information contact King at 615.279.6410, e-mail robert.king [at] lipscomb.edu or visit the LUCC web site at www.geocities.com/lucchorus. Interested parties may just show up at the first rehearsal or any of the following rehearsals on Thursday nights.
