Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy proudly announces applications are now being accepted for Middle Tennessee’s first Doctor of Pharmacy program through the online application process available at pharmacy.lipscomb.edu.

Applications from individuals will be accepted through Feb. 4. The program will enroll the first class of 75 students in August 2008 pending receipt of pre-candidate status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

“Today’s launch of the online application is an exciting time as we prepare for our inaugural class. The application is the first step that initiates our admissions process which will continue until candidate interviews are completed,” said Paige Akers, Pharm.D., Associate Dean of Student Affairs. “We are looking forward to receiving applications from potential student pharmacists seeking to enroll in Lipscomb’s College of Pharmacy and guiding them through completion of the admissions process.”

“In the last several months we have met and spoken with a number of prospective students and have been encouraged by both the number and quality of those interested in acceptance to the program,” said Laura Ward, Director of Admissions and Recruitment

In response to a growing need for highly qualified pharmacists throughout the nation, Lipscomb University announced in November that it would create the third college of pharmacy in the state, the first in Middle Tennessee.

This spring, the College of Pharmacy will move its headquarters to the newly renovated A.M. Burton Building, housing innovative state-of-the-art technology in its lecture halls and laboratory facilities, including a pharmaceutical preparation lab, patient assessment lab, a general science lab and a computerized dispensing lab. The Burton building will be a certified “green” building.

“I want to congratulate Paige Akers, Laura Ward and Christie Broome and our entire Leadership Council for their diligent efforts in bringing the college to this milestone. I am grateful for their creativity, leadership and commitment to the success of Lipscomb’s College of Pharmacy,” said Dean Roger L. Davis.

Akers added, “Preparation for our online application submission has taken the help and cooperation of many people. I am grateful to all who were involved in the steps that have led us to this application launch.”
