Middle Tennessee human resources professionals can now take advantage of a new Master’s of Human Resources (MHR) degree at Lipscomb University that offers a unique conflict management curriculum and can be completed on alternating weekends in one year, C. Turney Stevens, dean of Lipscomb’s College of Business, announced today.

The university is now accepting applications and targeting at least 15 students in the August class. With its emphasis on conflict management and dispute resolution through the university’s Institute for Conflict Management, this degree is the only one of its kind in the state.

“This is definitely a career-building opportunity,” Stevens said. “Not only does it equip a talented HR professional with skills that enhance his or her value to their employer, but according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a masters degree in this area can translate into well-deserved salary and career opportunity gains.”

The Lipscomb MHR is a “cohort” model whereby the 15-student group will move through the program together, creating a proven group dynamic of support and the sharing of professional experience. Students also have the opportunity to develop and implement a Strategic Human Resource Management system prior to graduation to enhance their resume. Based on demand, additional coursework will be available for HR professionals who want to sit for the PHR, SPHR or GPHR certification exams.
