The Institutes of Lipscomb University hosts four Collaborative Conversations on water resources

Lipscomb University’s Nelson and Sue Andrews Institute for Civic Leadership will host the first forum in the 2014 Collaborative Conversations series coordinated by the Institutes at Lipscomb on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m., in the Ezell Center. The forum is free and open to the public.

Each fall term, the Institutes at Lipscomb select one issue of mutual significance for public discussion, scholastic analysis and practical engagement. The 2014 evening series will discuss water resources. The remaining forums will be held on Oct. 14 and Nov. 11 and will all explore local water resource issues.

The first discussion on Tuesday, Sept. 9, will take a big picture view and offer insight from local, regional and state experts who also represent government, nonprofit and business entities that deal with the resource of water. The following experts will present their specific perspective on water issues and why the communities they serve should care.

  • David Tucker, assistant director operations, Metro Water Services;
  • Stephanie McCullough, Community Plans Division, Metro Planning Department and member of NashvilleNext committee;
  • Mekayle Houghton, executive director, Cumberland River Compact;
  • Tisha Calabrese Benton - director, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Division of Water; and
  • Commissioner Bob Martineau, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.

The Collaborative Conversations series is intended to foster civic engagement with professionals, practitioners and policymakers in the field and to enrich student research in conflict management, civic leadership, sustainable practice and law, justice and society.
