The Tokens Show will debut its 10th anniversary season with “Dylan. Jesus. America.” as part of Lipscomb University’s 2018 Thomas H. Olbricht Christian Scholars’ Conference. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on June 7 in Lipscomb’s Collins Alumni Auditorium.
While putting Bob Dylan’s canon in conversation with the struggle to define “America” and “Jesus,” the Tokens Show will be joined by United States Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner, Tracy K. Smith. Smith is a professor of creative writing at Princeton University, and in April released an acclaimed volume of poetry, Wade in the Water.
Joining Smith is celebrated author and memoirist Tobias Wolff, who holds a National Medal of Arts awarded by President Barack Obama in 2015 for his contributions as an author and educator. Wolff is professor emeritus of English at Stanford University, and served the United States Army as a Veteran of the Vietnam War.
Joining the virtuoso Tokens Show band will be songwriter Matthew Perryman Jones and the up-and-coming folk rock group, The New Respects.
For the past decade, the Tokens Show, founded and led by Lee C. Camp, professor of theology in Lipscomb University’s College of Bible & Ministry, has provided Nashville audiences with artistic brilliance and critical thinking as thought-provoking topics are met with satire and song.

Wolff will speak on June 8 on “The View from the Bottom of the Well.” Both sessions take place at 10:45 a.m. in Collins Alumni Auditorium. Both sessions are free and open to the public.
More than 500 scholars will come to Lipscomb campus for the 2018 Thomas H. Olbricht Christian Scholars’ Conference as they listen to speakers, panel discussions and paper presentations based on this year’s theme, “Discovery: The Challenge of Emergent Truth.”
