Christian activist Shane Claiborne to speak on new book <em>Executing Grace</em> at Feb. 8 Tokens Show

Christian activist and best-selling author Shane Claiborne will be the featured guest for Tokens, a radio-style variety show, for a discussion on his new book Executing Grace: How the Death Penalty Killed Jesus and Why Its Killing Us, on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Collins Alumni Auditorium on Lipscomb University's campus. 

Hosted by Tokens show creator Lee Camp and Tenx9 Nashville Storytelling curator Michael McRay, the event will also feature conversations on the death penalty, mass incarceration and forgiveness with guests Stacy Rector, director of Tennesseans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (TADP); Jeannie Alexander, director of No Exceptions Prison Collective (NEPC); Cynthia Vaughn, who after 30 years forgave her father on death row for the murder of her mother, and more.

In addition to the extended interviews, there will be music by popular singer-songwriter Derek Webb and other special musical guests.

Admission is free, however, a $20 donation is suggested per person. All event proceeds go to benefit TADP and NEPC. This event is open to the public. 

Claiborne is a prominent speaker, activist and best-selling author. He has worked with Mother Teresa in Calcutta and has founded The Simple Way in Philadelphia. He also leads Red Letter Christians, a movement of people who are committed to living "as if Jesus meant the things he said."

Claiborne has also written several books including: Jesus for President, Red Letter Revolution, Common Prayer, Follow Me to Freedom, Jesus, Bombs and Ice Cream, Becoming the Answer to Our Prayers, The Irresistible Revolution and his newest book, Executing Grace, and has been featured in a number of films including "Another World Is Possible" and "Ordinary Radicals.” His work has appeared in Esquire, SPIN, Christianity Today and The Wall Street Journal, and he has made appearances on Fox News, Al Jazeera, CNN and NPR. Claiborne has also given academic lectures at Harvard, Princeton, Liberty, Duke and Notre Dame. 

Established in 2007 by Lee C. Camp, professor of theology & ethics at Lipscomb, Tokens is a live radio variety show that blends music, humor and issues of social justice. Tokens officially launched in February 2008 as a quarterly event held on the Lipscomb campus, and since then, the show has quickly risen in popularity and reputation, due in large part to the caliber of guests Camp has incorporated into the program.
