Charlie Peacock featured at Dec. 1 AiR Speaker Series event

Renowned music industry leader Charlie Peacock is the featured speaker at the George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts’ Artist-in-Residence Speaker Series on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Shamblin Theatre.
Peacock is the founder of Lipscomb University’s contemporary music program. In September, he passed the baton as director of Lipscomb University’s School of Music to Grammy winning producer Brown Bannister. Peacock, who joined the George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts faculty as artist-in-residence in 2014, was named director of Lipscomb’s School of Music in 2015.
“The evening will be an opportunity for the Lipscomb community to recognize the work that Peacock did with Lipscomb as well as his contributions to the artistic community in Nashville,” said Mike Fernandez, dean of the George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts.

Under Peacock’s leadership, the contemporary music program was founded; he helped oversee the transition from a department of music to a school of music; overall music enrollment increased significantly and is now one of Lipscomb’s fastest-growing academic areas; a house near campus was renovated and developed into a “Music Row house” complete with a recording studio, editing suites and rehearsal space; an advisory board for the School of Music was formed; revitalized the ensemble programs; and music industry leaders and arts professionals joined the school as faculty, adjunct instructors and artists-in-residents to expand its technical and cultural reach, preparing 21st century creators, performing artists and educators for a lifetime of musical work.
In May, Lipscomb University became owner of the Sound Emporium, one of Nashville’s vibrant recording studios for nearly 50 years with the goal of preserving the professional production capacity of the studio while looking for subtle ways for it to serve as a real-world learning lab for contemporary music students in the university’s George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts.
“He also did tremendous work recruiting some of the best music students in the country and brought the absolute best industry professionals in to our midst. Because of his work the school grew from 39 majors to well over 100 in just two years,” said Fernandez. “Just this year the school achieved its first national ranking being named one of the top 30 schools of music in the country. All of this in two short years! We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude for Charlie's warm spirit, his tireless pursuit of perfection and his God given musical talent.”
The conversation will be hosted by Steve Taylor, Lipscomb’s filmmaker-in-residence as well as a writer, producer and recording artist. The AiR Speaker Series is a fun, lighthearted and enlightening conversation with some of today’s most successful artists. During the event, Taylor will talk to Peacock about his career, the twists and turns of life and everything he's learned along the way. The evening will be peppered with tributes from colleagues and friends.
“Charlie is a possibility thinker who sees the every-bigger picture yet still obsesses over the details,” said Taylor, assistant professor of film and creative media and director of the School of Theatre and Cinematic Arts at Lipscomb. “He's an artist who’s managed to maintain a buoyant career as a producer, songwriter and recording artist while simultaneously inspiring countless up-and-comers through his faith-filled teaching and mentoring.”
Lipscomb’s George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts offers undergraduate programs in cinematic arts, fashion merchandising, fashion design, entertainment design, music, composition, contemporary music, vocal performance, piano performance, instrumental performance, music teaching, acting, directing, musical theatre, theatre, theatre ministry, theatre teaching, studio art, graphic design, art therapy, visual arts administration, visual arts teaching and animation. A Master of Arts and a Master of Fine Arts in film and creative media, with a writer, director and producer emphasis also offered.
