Today’s business world is changing at a faster pace than ever before, and leaders who can adapt, communicate effectively and inspire others are in high demand. Lipscomb University’s Business Leadership program, offered through Lipscomb Online, is designed to prepare students to meet those challenges head-on.

Built on the fundamentals of accounting, economics, management and marketing, the program gives students a strong foundation in business principles while also cultivating key leadership competencies. Students develop skills in communication, organization and planning, influence, problem solving and relationship building—tools essential for guiding teams and organizations toward success.

“Leadership today requires more than just knowledge of business—it requires vision, adaptability and the ability to build strong teams,” said Dr. Emily Smith, assistant provost for online learning at Lipscomb. “Our students leave equipped with the confidence and skills to guide others through complexity and toward meaningful goals.”

Lipscomb offers multiple degree options in Business Leadership, including the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Professional Studies. Students can earn up to 30 credit hours through Lipscomb’s Assessment Center, a full-day workplace simulation with group and individual exercises that measure 15 cross-cutting competencies. Credits earned in the Assessment Center accelerate progress toward the 126 hours required for a fully-online degree.

The program is delivered fully online in a flexible eight-week term format, designed to fit the schedules of working adults. Along with 37-41 hours of general education requirements, students complete 30 hours of leadership core courses, including Introduction to Research Methods and a culminating Capstone experience.

Students also take upper-division leadership-focused courses, such as Communication, Applied Organizing and Planning, Problem Solving and Decision Making, and Relationship Building.

In addition, students take major courses that provide specialized training for leadership in business settings. These include Introduction to Accounting, Economic Concepts for Leaders, Marketing and Management Principles. Students may further tailor their studies by choosing electives such as Fundamentals of Finance, Servant Leadership or Human Resource Management for Leaders.

With opportunities to incorporate electives, badges, and concentrations, the program allows students to personalize their education and expand their expertise. Smith said that graduates of the Business Leadership program are prepared to lead effectively in a variety of settings—from running their own businesses to taking on leadership roles in large organizations.
