Norma B. Burgess, associate provost for diversity, inclusion and special initiatives, is tapped to lead the National Council on Family Relations.

The National Council on Family Relations’ (NCFR) membership has elected Norma J. Bond Burgess as the new president-elect of the NCFR Board of Directors. Burgess is associate provost for diversity, inclusion and special initiatives and professor at Lipscomb University.

Burgess is an NCFR Fellow and has been an NCFR member for 33 years. She has served NCFR as a previous board member-at large, member of the Elections Council, member of the Fellows Committee, and chair of the Ethnic Minorites Section. She has also been highly involved with the local regional chapters of NCFR, having served as the president of the Southeastern Council on Family Relations, and as president of the Affiliate Councils Board, which governs all of the local chapters from across the country.

“Professional development and leadership is the foundation for continued growth in many of the fields in which we actively serve,” Burgess wrote in her candidate statement. Her goal is to “integrate mentoring and leadership development workshops into [NCFR’s] existing program so that it is available to all within the organization... [and that it will] add a dimension to member benefits over time.”

Burgess and the other newly elected board members will assume their roles at the 2019 NCFR Annual Conference in Fort Worth, Texas, planned for Nov. 20-23.

The National Council on Family Relations is the premier professional association for the multidisciplinary understanding of families. NCFR has a membership of nearly 3,000 family researchers, practitioners and educators.
