Brewer's art combines seemingly opposing elements for one purpose

Lipscomb University senior Tiffany Brewer’s senior art exhibit in the John C. Hutcheson Art Gallery showcases a variety of the work she has completed throughout her college years. With the art, she finds ways to capture elements of everyday life, giving them attention they might not have otherwise.

“I enjoy taking photographs of objects such as a shower caddy that many people don’t consider art,” Brewer said. “I see it as a challenge - to capture the images of such objects in a way that will enable others to see the objects' artistic qualities.”

Brewer’s work also includes abstract art, which she uses to communicate with viewers an important message.

"My abstract piece in the show demonstrates the difference between night and day with the dark and light color designs,” Brewer said. “I used this to show that though the two are distinctly different, they also by necessity exist together and work together. In the same way, people often look at other differences in life and forget to realize that differences can be advantageous. My goal is to create art that will make them look at life closer and in a different way."

The work in Brewer’s exhibit demonstrates the continual development of her artistic abilities as noted by Professor Cliff Tierney.

“Tiffany's creativity has blossomed over the last year. The work she has done for me in printmaking has been professional quality both conceptually and technically,” Tierney said. “She has a good eye for design; even in her studio work there's an obvious slant towards tighter forms and the use of high contrast graphic space.”

Brewer, a graphic design major, is interning at Allegra Print and Imaging with plans to remain in the graphic design industry after graduation.
