Bradshaw and Phipps selected for Project Kaleidoscope alliance

Two faculty members at Lipscomb University, Dr. Alan Bradshaw and Dr. Linda Phipps have been selected as members of the Project Kaleidoscope Faculty for the 21st Century, Class of 2005, Jeanne Narum, executive director of PKAL has announced.

Bradshaw, associate professor of physics and Phipps, assistant professor of chemistry, were recognized for their leadership ability at Lipscomb.

"These are faculty members who have demonstrated leadership potential within their local community and with the potential for national leadership into the next century," Narum said. "Known as PKAL F21 (Project Kaleidoscope Faculty for the 21st Century), this network offers members a wide range of opportunities to become productive agents of change and visible leaders within their campus and disciplinary communities."

Project Kaleidoscope is an informal national alliance working to build strong learning environments for undergraduate students in mathematics, engineering and the various fields of science, according to the pkal.org website.

"This nationwide network of young faculty in the sciences and engineering areas provides a forum for leaders in undergraduate science to share ideas about shaping the future in these fields," Narum said.  "This national alliance is dedicated to exploring and defining what works in science education, disseminating effective practices through workshops, publications, real and virtual networks; and supporting their widespread adaptation."

Bradshaw and Phipps were recognized because they have made a difference at their university that has improved the educational offerings for their students, according to Ben Hutchinson, dean of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences at Lipscomb.

"We are honored that two of our well-deserving faculty members have been chosen to serve on this alliance," Hutchinson said.  "This honor reflects the fact that our faculty is constantly working to improve their teaching and be on the leading edge of education."
