Lipscomb University presents “Bringing Up Tim Tebow: Raising Children to Love God & Serve,” featuring Bob and Pam Tebow, parents of former University of Florida Quarterback Tim Tebow, in a parenting seminar on April 17 at 2 p.m. in Allen Arena.

Tickets for the seminar are $5 each and may be purchased at lipscombsports.com. The seminar is sponsored by Lipscomb University Athletics and WAY-FM 88.7 FM. For more information, call 615.966.5850.

During the parenting seminar the Tebows will discuss lessons that they have “tried to impart to all of their children in their efforts to inspire them to love God, live excellently and to serve their fellow man,” said Philip Hutcheson, Lipscomb University athletic director.

“The Tebows have an incredible story to share and we are excited to have them come to Lipscomb to encourage other parents with this seminar,” he said. “Anyone who has watched Tim Tebow over the last four years knows there has to be something very special about his parents.”

The Tebows, who married in 1971, have five children, daughters Christy and Katie and sons Robby, Peter and Timmy.

Bob Tebow
Bob received a Bachelor of Science degree in health and human performance from the University of Florida. While a student, he helped start Florida’s chapter of Campus Crusade for Christ. Upon graduation in 1971, Bob married Pam and they moved to Portland, Oregon to begin seminary. He graduated from Western Seminary with Master of Divinity and Th.M. degrees in 1974 and 1976.

Following seminary, the Tebows moved back to Northeast Florida where Bob became the area representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (1976-1979). He went on to be the Associate Pastor for Southside Baptist Church (1979-1982) before becoming the Senior Pastor for Cornerstone Community Church (1982-1985). While at Cornerstone Community Church, the Tebows felt the call to be missionaries to the Philippines, where they moved in 1985.

While the Tebows still lived in the Philippines, they had their fifth child, Timmy. After several years of ministry in the Philippines, the family moved back to the United States in the early 90’s. Bob continues to have an ongoing ministry in the Philippines. He employs 50 nationals and runs an orphanage for 50 orphans. Pam is very involved in her husband’s ministry, coordinating numerous projects and personnel.

Pam Tebow
As the daughter of an army colonel, Pam Tebow lived all over the world until she was seventeen. She entered the University of Florida, where she graduated with honors in journalism and communications.

The Tebows have been called “homeschool pioneers.” They began homeschooling in 1982 before it was practiced as much as is it today. She homeschooled each of their five children from kindergarten through high school. Pam retired after 24 years of homeschooling when her last child, Tim, left for college.

Over the last several years, Pam has spoken across the country. She is writing a book on parenting. The notoriety of the Tebow family increased when their youngest son won the Heisman Trophy following his sophomore season with the Florida Gators. Because ESPN aired the portion of the interview with Pam that focused on her refusal to abort “Timmy” when she was advised to do so, she now has a national platform to encourage the pro-life message. That message was the focus of a controversial ad that aired during the 2010 Superbowl starring Tebow and his mother. Paid for by the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family, the ad tells the story of the Tebows and her pregnancy with Tim. During the pregnancy, Pam contracted amoebic dysentery and the medicines used for her recovery threatened her unborn fetus. Doctors advised her to abort the fetus. Pam ignored their advice and gave birth on Aug. 14, 1987, to Tim, who is arguably one of the most recognized college quarterbacks.

At 7:30 p.m. April 17, Tim Tebow will be the featured speaker at the Second Annual Don Meyer Evening of Excellence. Tickets may be purchased at lipscombsports.com.
