Board of trustees welcomes two new members this summer

Lipscomb University recently announced the addition of Bill Huston and Richard G. Cowart to its board of trustees.
 
Huston is chief financial officer of Southern Care Inc. in Birmingham, Ala. A resident of Dallas, Huston has more than 31 years of hospital financial management experience.
 
During his career, Huston has served as a hospital CFO for five hospitals, a regional CFO for National Medical Enterprises and a division CFO for Hospital Corporation of America. His most recent appointment prior to joining SouthernCare in May 2009 was as senior vice president for finance for Triad Hospitals Inc., where he had financial operations responsibilities for all 53 hospitals in the company.
 
A Lipscomb alumnus, Huston was a member of the Bison tennis team and recently was the lead donor for the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on the Lipscomb campus.
 
Cowart is the chair of Nashville law firm Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz PC’s health and public policy department and is a member of the firm’s board of directors. He is a recognized authority in advising senior management regarding policy, regulatory and business issues related to health care.
 
He serves as strategic counsel to health care companies and counsels providers on business, policy and governance issues, with an emphasis on business transactions. Cowart is a nationally known speaker and writer on health care issues. He was the national columnist for Medical News Inc. for 18 years and is the health business columnist for The Tennessean.
