The Bison Basketball team opens its 2010-11 season tonight against the Tar Heels of North Carolina, one of basketball’s legendary powerhouses.

Lipscomb, last year’s regular season Atlantic Sun regular-season champions, meets North Carolina for the first time on the basketball court. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CST in the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. The game will be televised on Fox Sports South (Comcast channel 28 in Nashville). Radio coverage begins at 5:15 p.m. CST and may be accessed by clicking here.

The Bisons went 17-13 and 14-6 in conference play last season. The Bisons are a heavy favorite to repeat as they return all five starters.

Senior center Adnan Hodzic, the 2009-2010 A-Sun Player of the Year, has been selected to repeat that performance this season. Hodzic and senior guard Josh Slater were unanimous selections to the preseason all-conference team. They were two of three players to earn the unanimous approval of the coaches.

In the coaches poll the Bisons received six first place votes followed by ETSU with four and Belmont with one. In the media poll the Bisons received 23 first place votes followed by ETSU with nine and Belmont with one.

North Carolina enters the game ranked #8 in the nation. The Tar Heels went 20-17 last season and lost in the NIT Championship game. Carolina is 93-7 all-time in home openers and has won 77 of the last 79, losing just twice since 1928-29. The last loss came to Hampton in 2001-02.

The Bisons return home Nov. 15 to take on Stillman College at 7 p.m. in Allen Arena. For more information visit lipscombsports.com.
