Janel Shoun |

The Lipscomb University Art Department will host its annual Faculty Art Show, along with a student photography exhibit and a special Cup Show and Silent Auction, Thursday-Saturday, March 8-10, on the Lipscomb campus at 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville.

This combination of three art shows, featuring faculty and student pieces as well as the work of invited artists in the community, is a first-time event for the Lipscomb Art Department. The Faculty Art Show and the photography exhibit will also mark the public debut of Studio 3901, an industrial-style studio space opened this school year in the basement of Sewell Hall. The Cup Show and Silent Auction will take place in Beaman Library.

Faculty Art Show & Student Photography Show

An opening reception for the Faculty Art Show and the student Photography Show will be held 5-7 p.m., Thursday, March 8, in Studio 3901. The faculty works will be for sale and can be viewed in the studio from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, March 8-10.

The student photography will be sold through a silent auction to conclude on Saturday evening at 6 p.m., and can be viewed in the hallway outside the studio in Sewell Hall. Proceeds of student art work will benefit the Lipscomb photography program.

Lipscomb full-time faculty Rocky Horton, Ralph Thurman and Cliff Tierney, along with adjunct faculty Easton Selby and Cassie Robbins, will each display several works. The show will highlight their most recent works reflecting each of their current interests.

Cup Show & Silent Auction

A closing reception for the Cup Show and Silent Auction will be held in Beaman Library at 4-6 p.m., Saturday, March 10. Hot chocolate, coffee and traditional tea-time snacks will be served as part of this fund-raising event.

Lipscomb faculty, students and invited artists will display functional and sculptural interpretations of the “most utilitarian and domestic object in our culture – the cup,” said Smith. Clay and papier-mâchécups will be displayed in the library, open 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The cups will be sold by silent auction, concluding at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 10, and proceeds of faculty and student works will benefit the Lipscomb Art Department.

“All three of these shows will exhibit a wealth of new ideas and new enthusiasm, as most of the current art faculty have come on board within the past two years,” said Laura Lake Smith, chair of the Lipscomb art department. “We’re very excited about showing the public the high-quality, vibrant art produced by Lipscomb students and faculty every day.”
