The Nashville community will have a unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the production process of the popular FOX animated show “American Dad” on Sept. 7 at a special event hosted by Lipscomb University’s George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts.
“American Dad” writer Jordan Blum and Supervising Director Brent Woods will visit Lipscomb’s Collins Alumni Auditorium for “The Making of an Episode of ‘American Dad.’” The duo will share insight into the process of developing an animated series from an idea in a writer’s room to getting an episode on the air as well as stories from their careers.
The event begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Admission is free for Lipscomb students and $5 for the general public. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance here.
Hosting the conversation will be Melissa Forte, chair of the cinematic arts program at Lipscomb, and Tom Bancroft, former Disney animator and artist-in-residence in Lipscomb’s animation program.
“It’s important for students to have an opportunity to see what they are learning in the classroom come to life by exposing them to leaders in the industry,” said Bancroft. “Bringing these experts to campus add tremendous value to a student’s educational experience not only for the knowledge and insight they gain but also with the networking and connections they make with these professionals.”
Each year, Bancroft said the George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts brings a series of artists and experts to campus to conduct workshops and to interact with students. Bum and Woods are the first to visit the CEA this academic year.
The event is sponsored by Lipscomb’s cinematic arts and animation programs. In addition to the Sept. 7 evening lecture, Blum and Woods will be visiting several CEA classes. The following day, they will conduct a more in-depth pitching workshop for students.
“I am particularly looking forward to this event because it brings cinematic arts and animation together,” said Forte. “It’s an opportunity for our students to see and understand how these two areas connect. While Jordan takes us step-by-step through the process and Brent sketches, they will show how the production team brings life to this animated 'American Dad.'”
