A graduate of Lipscomb University's master of business administration program has been named deputy assistant secretary for headquarters operations at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Timothy L. Weatherford, who earned his M.B.A. degree at Lipscomb in 2001, is responsible for all chief operating officer duties for Treasury Headquarters, serving more than 2,600 managers, employees and contractors with a budget of more than $175 million. "I use daily what I learned at Lipscomb," Weatherford said in a telephone interview from his office in the White House compound. "It has positioned me with a lot of rocket fuel. I could not be doing what I'm doing without the degree I earned at Lipscomb. ... It's a tremendous institution." Weatherford provides management and direction for all operational programs at Treasury Headquarters, including human resource management, budget formulation and execution, financial services, information technology services, travel and special events, historical preservation, library services, and administrative resources, according to the Treasury website. He is also responsible for managing the entire departmental process of strategic management, including strategic planning, performance budget formulation, performance reporting, and implementation of the President's Management Agenda. He directs the Treasury Headquarters' Restructuring Program, the divestiture to the Department of Homeland Security, and Treasury's Budget Review Board. Before joining Treasury, Weatherford was director of operations for the Tennessee office of Lucent Technologies. He was also company founder and CEO of Dallas-based Atrius Technologies, a software development and technology consulting company. He has also worked for Proctor and Gamble and NASA. In addition to his M.B.A. from Lipscomb, he holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Kentucky.
