2013 Milestones for Lipscomb University

Top 20 University: Lipscomb University was named the No. 20 top regional university in the South, according to the U.S. News and World Report’s “2014 America’s Best Colleges” guidebook. Top Four in Education: The College of Education earned a four-star overall rating from the National Council on Teacher Quality. It was one of only four institutions nationwide to earn that score in the organization's first ever Teacher Prep Review study. Green University: Lipscomb University is one of only five schools in Tennessee included in the Princeton Review’s 2013 Guide to 322 Green Colleges, which highlights schools that have demonstrated a strong commitment to the environment and to sustainability. Best for Vets: The College of Business was ranked 24th in the nation for veterans based on financial aid, academic policies and participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program, according to the Military Times’ 2013 Best for Vets: Business Schools guide. Bang for Buck: Lipscomb University has been named one of the top universities in the nation for best value by Washington Monthly. The university is ranked in the top 12 percent in the nation out of 1,572 universities surveyed for the “Best-Bang-for-the-Buck Colleges” list, based on the economic value students receive per dollar invested. Institute for Civic Leadership: The Nelson and Sue Andrews Institute for Civic Leadership received a 2013 Regional Thinking and Action Award from Cumberland Region Tomorrow, recognizing successful examples of growth leadership, for its Transit Citizen Leadership Academy, a partnership between the institute and the Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee. Green Ribbon School: Lipscomb Academy Elementary School was named a 2013 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School for its environmental sustainability program. Military-Friendly: For the fifth year in a row, Lipscomb has been included on the Military Friendly Schools® list, honoring the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools providing services and programs to ensure that military service members, veterans, their spouses and dependents are successful on campus. Global Hope MBA: The College of Business created the new Global Hope MBA degree program, providing five full-tuition scholarships to international students from developing nations who pledge to return home and use their MBA to make a difference in their home country. Million Dollar Grant: The College of Education’s Ayers Institute for Teaching Learning and Innovation was awarded a $1.2 million grant by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission to develop training for university faculty in the Common Core State Standards. Lifetime ROI: Lipscomb University has been named a top university for lifetime return on investment by Affordable Colleges Online, a leading national resource for college affordability and financial aid information. Lipscomb was ranked eighth out of 185 Tennessee colleges analyzed for the ranking. New Coach: Nashville native Casey Alexander was hired as the 18th head coach of the Lipscomb University men’s basketball program, bringing 18 years of NCAA Division I coaching experience in the Atlantic Sun Conference to the Bison program. Taylor Art Collection: Dr. Dean Taylor donated more than 100 paintings to the Lipscomb University College of Arts and Sciences in honor of his late wife, Mary Taylor. The Mary Elbert Taylor Art Collection is valued at more than $275,000 and is comprised of pieces assembled over nearly a decade.
NEED Youth Winner: Lipscomb Academy Elementary School was named Primary Pharmacy Research Building: Lipscomb University began construction on a 15,000-square-foot pharmacy and health sciences research facility to include classrooms, labs and offices. It is the second building in a planned science and health science complex on the north side of campus. |
