MediaMasters: A conversation with Rudy Kalis

The Department of Communication and Journalism will host Media Masters featuring journalist and local favorite Rudy Kalis. Admission is free, and pizza will be provided.
Kalis grew up in Milwaukee, Wis., and later spent four years in the United States Air Force before earning a degree in broadcasting from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He worked as a news and sports reporter at WFRV-TV in Green Bay for two years before coming to WSM-TV in Nashville in 1974. There, he worked as a sports reporter and sports director for 43 years, until he retired at the end of 2017.
Kalis has earned four regional Emmys and a national Iris Journalism award for a locally produced documentary entitled “The Boxer.” He’s won 12 Associated Press awards for the outstanding sportscast in Tennessee and has been voted the best sportscaster in Nashville more than 30 times by various local publications, including the Nashville Scene and The Tennessean. Since retiring, Kalis has become a full-time volunteer for a prison ministry called Men of Valor. He also hosts an annual golf tournament for ALS.
