The Institute of Christian Spirituality presents "Discover St. Augustine," a four-week online introduction with sessions held on Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26.

This February, join Hazelip School of Theology professor Alden Bass, Ph.D, for a four-week course exploring the life and teachings of St. Augustine, one of the most influential voices in Christian history. We’ll trace Augustine’s restless and passionate journey to God and his profound insights into love, community, and the life of faith. Each week, we’ll engage a central theme—discovering how his ancient wisdom continues to illuminate the path of Christian spirituality and discipleship today.

Bass is the Koonce Distinguished Professor of Bible and Ministry at Lipscomb University, where he specializes in early Christianity. A scholar and translator of Augustine's works, he brings both academic expertise and pastoral experience to his teaching. Bass has served churches in Missouri and Oklahoma, and currently preaches at the historic Lindsley Avenue Church in downtown Nashville.

Each hour-long, themed session will be presented via Zoom from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. CT on the dates below. The Zoom link will be shared with you by email prior to the event.

  • February 5: Restless Hearts: Augustine's Journey to God
