Mark Needham; Producer for Dolly Parton, The Killers, Imagine Dragons, P!nk, and More will Visit Lipscomb Campus Oct 25th for Artist Development Incubator Workshop
The Lipscomb School of Music’s Department of Music Industry Studies is excited to get in on Dolly Fever when, on Wednesday, Oct 25th, they welcome award-winning music producer, engineer, and artist development legend Mark Needham to campus for a special Artist Development Incubator Workshop. Mr. Needham recently wrapped production on Dolly’s new album Rockstar and has worked with her on several of her recent projects, but is also well-known in the industry for his work with Fleetwood Mac, P!nk, Chris Tomlin, Mt. Joy, and countless others. His production and artist development expertise became the stuff of legend when he discovered and launched the careers of The Killers, Imagine Dragons, and others as well. Needham, who works out of Los Angeles and Nashville, will join Lipscomb’s Director of Music Industry Studies, John J. Thompson, for a wide-ranging conversation about his career, the challenges facing artists today, what makes music special, and a lot more.
Thompson developed The Artist Development Incubator program several years ago and is excited to bring it to Lipscomb’s campus. “There’s a lot of wisdom, knowledge, and passion living in the hearts and minds of artists, producers, and professionals like Mark Needham,” Thompson explains, “Opportunities like these are special indeed. Our students get to hear from various experts in their classes, but these Incubator Workshops are a chance to invite others into the conversations as well. We know that it’s not only Music Industry Studies majors – or even songwriting and production majors – who will benefit from Mark’s expertise.”
This Incubator Workshop will take place at 7pm on October 25th in Stowe Hall (Swang 108) and limited seating is available. Advance tickets are required and can be reserved HERE. Proceeds from the modest $5 general admission charge will benefit “Red Dog Productions,” the new Live Music Practicum at Lipscomb. “When one of our Practicum students found out that baby bison were called red dogs,” Thompson explains, “we knew that this practicum had found its name.” Red Dog Productions regularly offers live events at The Well, including the Dolly Jam on Oct 19th and a slate of songwriter rounds and artist showcases throughout the season.
